Volvo said that the new battery materials are cheaper and more environmentally friendly. If all the current electric vehicle batteries are replaced with this new material, the weight of the vehicle can be reduced by more than 15%, and the effect is obvious. The rearrangement of batteries is also one of the effective means to improve the energy density of the system. For example, through the research and design of the battery cell size to match the layout of the vehicle, more batteries can be placed more efficiently, so that the volume of the battery box remains unchanged, the number of new batteries is added, and a longer driving range is achieved. In short, improving battery energy density can be achieved through various methods. In addition to long-term planning, the immediate priority for automobile companies is to develop more reliable and economical lightweight materials. In the period when battery technology is facing bottlenecks, thinking more from the light-weight design concept is an important thrust of the electric vehicle technology revolution. No matter what kind of material the new battery is made of in the future, the materials that make up the battery pack can basically be used in general. It may not benefit much in the short term, but in the long run, this kind of basic research will not be futile.
