Laptop batteries are very important components of the computer. You should acknowledge however that with the advancements in technology there are distinct varieties. It is important that when you go to buy a notebook computer battery, you know the differences between the various types in order to determine the best one for you. There are three types of notebook computer batteries that you could choose from, each coming with their own advantages and disadvantages.
The first type is nickel cadmium batteries. These were the pioneer type of batteries that were rechargeable. They were very much preferred by manufacturers due to the relatively low cost involved in their making, as well as their high output. These types of batteries are however not used anymore. This is because they were heavy and were inefficient compared to the newer types.
The next type is the nickel metal hydride notebook computer battery. These batteries may not be very common these days, but you will still find them in the older models of notebook computers. However, you should note that they were relatively more reliable compared to the nickel cadmium batteries. They actually had a higher output than the cadmium type, not to mention that they come at lower cost of production as well as being safer. However, they came with the disadvantage that they could be destroyed by improper charging. In fact, if it is not fully discharged, the battery output will be impaired.
The third type is the lithium ion battery that is common these days. This battery is lighter compared to the other types and also would not be harmed by not being fully discharged. In addition, it incorporates more power output than the other types. This is what has made this type of notebook computer battery very popular these days. However, you need to note that it is also very costly compared to the other types. This is however a minor consideration, bearing in mind the safety that it incorporates.
