Power battery market installed capacity dropped sharply

SNE Research pointed out that the reason why LG Chem has achieved rapid growth is that its supporting Tesla Model 3 (made in China), Audi e-tron (95 kWh), Renault Zoe and other models have been selling well recently. Samsung SDI supplies electric vehicles such as Audi e-tron (71 kWh), BMW 330e, and Volkswagen e-Golf, while SK Innovation has benefited from its orders with Hyundai and Kia. In particular, the E-GMP electric modular platform specially built by Hyundai Motor Group selected SK Innovation as the first battery supplier and LG Chem as the second battery supplier. Hyundai's prototype vehicle based on the E-GMP platform is expected to be put into production in the first quarter of 2021. It is foreseeable that it will bring a large number of orders for SK Innovation and LG Chem at that time. ■Decline in the Chinese market The rise of the European market in response to the decline in the overall global battery installed capacity in the first half of the year, SNE Research pointed out, mainly because China and the United States, as key markets, were affected by the epidemic economy and the demand for new energy vehicles declined. As for Europe, it is another world. Statistics from the China Association of Automobile Manufacturers show that in the first half of this year, the domestic production and sales of new energy vehicles were 397,000 and 393,000, a year-on-year decrease of 36.5% and 37.4% respectively. The best-selling of these models has naturally driven the growth of battery installed capacity of Korean manufacturers. Although the installed capacity of the CATL was overtaken in the first half of the year, the gap between the two sides is not big, and the contention for the annual installed capacity of the year is still in suspense. For LG Chem, the delivery of Volkswagen ID.3 and other models in Europe, as well as the best-selling domestic Tesla, are its important growth engines. LG Chem previously stated that battery orders in the third quarter are full and it is expected to increase by more than 25% compared to the second quarter.
