How to re-use used lithium-ion batteries?

by:Vglory      2021-04-23
1. Recycling of raw materials. From a technical point of view, the current recycling technology for waste power lithium batteries is quite mature: first completely discharge, and then disassemble the battery to separate components such as the positive electrode, negative electrode, electrolyte, and diaphragm. Then the electrode material is subjected to alkaline leaching, acid leaching, and extraction after removing impurities to achieve the enrichment of valuable metals, and the element recovery rate is close to 100%. 2. Echelon utilization of used batteries. The capacity of used batteries is declining, but there is still a certain energy storage capacity, and the life cycle has not yet ended. It can also be applied to the energy storage market, light electric vehicles, and backup batteries. At present, many foreign car companies and institutions are exploring, for example, using them as backup power sources for homes or commercial buildings. That is to use solar energy to charge during the day and use the trough electricity price at night to store the electricity in the battery for daytime or emergency use. General Motors used to use 5 sets of used Chevrolet Volt batteries to create a household backup power source. After being fully charged, it can be used by 3-5 ordinary American households for 2 hours after a power failure. Tesla has also explored the reuse of used batteries before, but this model has certain applicable scenarios for single-family houses in many areas of the United States that are sparsely populated and scattered. For people living in cities, there are not many application scenarios, so there are some commercial organizations that collect used batteries as a power storage platform, and supply the electricity they collect to residents in their own power grid. How about the utilization of domestic used batteries? In order to promote the recycling and utilization of used batteries, the Ministry of Industry and Information Technology announced in July the Interim Provisions on the Traceability Management of the Recycling and Utilization of Power Batteries for New Energy Vehicles, which will be officially implemented on August 1. The important content of this traceability management is to regulate the collection of information throughout the entire process of power lithium battery processing, sales, scrapping, recycling, and utilization, and to monitor the performance of the recycling and utilization responsibilities of the entities in each link. From a technical point of view, the current recycling technology of waste power lithium batteries is quite mature, and its element recovery rate is close to 100%. The current difficulty lies in the process of recycling. In a sense, taking it back from the user may be more difficult than subsequent processing.
