Five key elements for the development of lithium batteries

Almost all automakers and suppliers agree that when the era of hybrid and electric vehicles arrives, lithium batteries will become the energy storage device of the future. Among all batteries, lithium battery technology has great potential for development. Lithium batteries have five key elements: cost, energy storage, power density, safety and longevity. To allow ordinary consumers to switch to electric vehicles, it depends on the price of the car, and the battery is one of the expensive part. The company calculates 350 euros per kilowatt-hour (kWh) for battery consumption in 2015; in other words, the price of a lithium battery with a capacity of 35 kWh is about 12,000 euros. Another key factor in the success of electric vehicles is their endurance, which depends to a large extent on the electricity stored in the battery. The customer's required range is 200km. To meet this demand, the key to improving power storage and density is to improve the battery's chemical composition. Improvements in power storage have also reduced the weight and size of lithium batteries. In other words, the capacity of the 35 kWh battery is about 350 liters, and the total weight is about 350 kg. In addition, the life of a lithium battery should be as long as that of a car. In the case of a hybrid vehicle, the battery has to be charged up to one million times, because the power modes of the motor and generator of the hybrid vehicle are frequently switched and recharged by braking. As far as electric vehicles are concerned, SBLiMotive's goal is to achieve 1,500 to 2,000 full charge cycles, which is equivalent to driving 150 to 200 kilometers per charge, with a lifespan of approximately 300,000 kilometers. The lithium battery has a service life of more than 10 years. If the battery performance is not less than 80% of the original performance, do not replace it. The safety of lithium batteries must also meet the high standards of the automotive industry, and plays an important role in the safety of internal materials. A power-off separator is a good example: if the battery is too hot, it will interrupt the current. Regarding each battery, it is important to monitor the battery. The battery management system continuously records and regulates current, voltage, temperature and power to prevent the battery from overheating or power failure. The advanced thermal management system ensures that the battery is always in the ideal safe temperature range. Keep it at 35-40 degrees Celsius to keep the battery running.
