The two companies confirmed that Toyota and Panasonic will cooperate in the processing of prismatic lithium batteries for electric vehicles at a factory in western Japan starting in 2022. These batteries will be processed by the PrimePlanet Energy Solutions joint venture established in April, in which Toyota owns 51% of the shares and Panasonic holds the remaining shares. According to the joint venture, Panasonic’s plant in Tokushima Prefecture, Japan will have enough capacity to build batteries for approximately 500,000 cars per year. The joint venture said in a statement: “Because the electrification of automobiles is a necessary condition to solve environmental problems such as global warming and air pollution, the global electric vehicle market is expected to continue to rise rapidly.” “The expansion of production is to enable PrimePlanetEnergySolutions to cope with hybrid power. This is a step towards the rising demand for prismatic lithium batteries in automobiles.” This is not the first time we have heard of Toyota and Panasonic working together through their PrimePlanet Energy Solutions joint venture, which has approximately 5,600 employees. The two companies first announced the establishment of a joint venture in February, stating that they would start processing lithium batteries for electric vehicles, but not hybrid vehicles, as specified in the latest statement. Unlike the cylindrical lithium battery used in many electric vehicles (including Tesla), the square battery is square. Toyota and Panasonic first agreed in December 2017 to study the feasibility of a joint venture to manufacture prismatic batteries. Toyota and Panasonic will cooperate in processing hybrid lithium-ion batteries. Statement: Some pictures and content of the articles published on this site are from the Internet.
