The life cycle of solar panels

Solar panels have a long life cycle. Solar panels have a long service life. Some solar panels installed in the 1890s can still generate clean electricity, but their durability depends on their economic cost. In order to make the service life of solar panels reach or exceed 25 years, various valuable sealants and protective coatings are used on solar panels. In order to protect the fragile crystalline silicon solar cells in the module, many manufacturers use valuable EVA adhesives as coatings. Researchers at the Fraunhofer Center for Sustainable Power Systems (CSE) in the United States have been exploring cheap alternatives to solar cells. One of the materials is silicone, which is neither an inorganic crystal nor an organic polymer, but both are related. Not mixed with silicon, silicon is inert, is a synthetic compound, and has many forms and uses. Although a variety of silicone compounds are used to encapsulate photovoltaic modules, this material itself is not widely used in tandem solar cells. Fraunhofer researchers have now prepared a prototype of the silicon-layer battery and placed it in an artificial climate chamber to withstand low-temperature cyclic loading. Then the flash and electronic fluorescence imaging techniques were tested. Compared with traditional solar modules, this silicon-coated battery has stronger resistance to cyclic loading in strong winds, especially at temperatures of minus 40 degrees Celsius. In other Fraunhofer news, the arrangement has announced the official opening of otf-1, Fraunhofer’s new outdoor photovoltaic test facility in Albuquerque, New Mexico. As an extension of the existing CSE of the Albuquerque Solar Energy Research Center, this arrangement will greatly help photovoltaic module and module manufacturers evaluate the actual performance and durability of their products, as well as help system integrators collect important data about performance and life expectancy.
