Immediately afterwards, on August 8, BAIC New Power and Mercedes-Benz Power Co., Ltd., a wholly-owned subsidiary of Daimler AG, established a technology development partnership to establish a battery cascade energy storage system in China. Integrate the relevant resources in the value chain and industrial chain of both sides, and lay out the future power ecological management industry. Both sides plan to establish the first battery-echelon energy storage unit in Beijing. With the in-depth development of the new power car industry chain, the cascading use of surrounding power batteries is continuing to ferment. Internationally, car companies such as BMW and Nissan that have been active in the field of new-powered cars have all begun to deploy power battery echelon use in the early stage. Although the investment enthusiasm of all parties is high, and the relevant state departments are also actively promoting the cascading use of power batteries, there are still some problems that need to be addressed. The biggest doubt is that the ideal way of cascading energy storage now has high requirements on battery life and performance, but retired power batteries from different vehicles can certainly meet their requirements. Generally, large-scale energy storage systems have a large demand for batteries, because batteries often come from different vehicles. If you cannot understand the true state and cycle life of these batteries from different sources, it will not only affect the energy storage effect, but even have safety. risk. Moreover, it was believed that the most practical method was to disassemble the power battery pack into a single unit, test it, and recognize its performance before consistently using it as energy storage. In this process, the process of dismantling, testing, and assembling is not only time-consuming and labor-intensive, but also costly. It is difficult for a company as a single recovery entity to complete it independently. At the same time, the power battery structures of various companies are different now. The batteries of different structures such as ternary batteries, lithium iron phosphate batteries, and even lithium manganese oxides are not only different in performance, but also in their service life. They are all obstacles that need to be overcome when using ladders. Why are car companies and related companies so interested in the echelon use of power batteries? The key lies in the value of cascading use. Generally speaking, after the power battery power has decayed to 80%, it will not be able to satisfy the requirements for powering new-powered cars, and has to face screening. If the battery is directly scrapped and recovered when it still has 80% of the power and thousands of cycles of life, there is a great waste of resources, so how to use the value of retired power batteries has become the focus of attention of all parties, and it is also regarded by enterprises. An effective way to reduce costs and increase efficiency has even become a new business for some companies to increase revenue. Prior to this, BAIC Group had carried out power battery cascade use projects through its subsidiary BAIC Penglong. It is reported that the first phase of this project is planned for the echelon use of decommissioned power batteries; the second phase is planned for the recovery and disposal and resource utilization of used power batteries. It is planned to invest 1.2 billion yuan and will have an annual processing capacity of 400,000 sets (about 100,000 tons) after completion. The recovery and processing capacity of used power batteries and the production capacity of 20,000 tons of ternary cathode material precursors. This project may become a new development point for BAIC in the future, assisting it to open up the upstream and downstream of the new-powered car industry chain. It is worth mentioning that at that time, both car companies, battery manufacturers, and even charging service providers wanted to deploy the echelon use of power batteries in advance to seize the future market, but so far they have not yet presented a successful business model that can be bigger and stronger. There are a lot of small'powers' occupying the market. With the increase of entrants, market competition will also intensify. These different subjects will form a tendency of competition and cooperation, and future reshuffles are inevitable. Although the “cake” of the use of power batteries is very large and the prospects are broad, it is not so simple for companies to truly obtain market dividends.
