How to correctly use the equalizer to charge the battery. Almost all fixed batteries are lead-acid batteries. Some maintenance is required. One of them is balanced charging. Through regular balance charging, the voltage of all batteries is increased to 2.5v/cell, which is 10% higher than the recommended charging voltage, thereby increasing the voltage of all batteries to a similar level. The balance charge is just an intentional excess charge used to remove sulfate crystals that have accumulated on the plate over time. If not controlled, vulcanization will reduce the total capacity of the battery, and in extreme cases, it will also make the battery unusable. The balance charge also reverses the acid layer, and the acid concentration at the bottom of the battery is higher than at the top. Battery experts recommend a balanced maintenance once or twice a month. A better way is to apply a fully saturated charge, and then use a hydrometer to compare the specific gravity readings (SG) of each battery in a liquid-rich lead-acid battery. If the SG difference between cells is 0.030, only equalization is applied. During the balance charge, check the specific gravity reading every hour, and disconnect when the gravity no longer rises. The time cannot be further increased, and continuous charging will have a negative impact on the battery. The battery must be kept cool and closely monitored to prevent abnormal heating and excessive ventilation. Some ventilation is normal, and hydrogen is highly flammable. The battery must be well ventilated because hydrogen will explode at a concentration of 4%. The balance of VRLA and other sealed batteries should be measured. Observing the difference in battery voltage does not provide a definite solution. Good judgment plays a key role in assessing the frequency and duration of use. Some manufacturers recommend balancing between 2 and 16 hours per month. Most valve-regulated lead-acid batteries (VRLA) are vented at 34kPa (5psi) and repeatedly vented, resulting in depletion of the electrolyte, leading to dry conditions. Not all chargers have a balanced charging function. If the service is not available, special equipment should be used to perform the service.
