How to prevent lithium battery explosion?

by:Vglory      2021-04-10
Lithium batteries are the fastest growing battery system in the past 20 years and are currently widely used in the electronics field. The explosion of the latest mobile phones and laptops is essentially a battery explosion. What are the batteries of mobile phones and laptops, how they work, why they burst, and how to prevent them from bursting. The overcharge voltage of the lithium battery is higher than 4.2v, which has side effects on the initial attack. The greater the pressure, the greater the risk. When the voltage of the lithium battery is higher than 4.2v, less than half of the lithium atoms in the positive data are left, and the storage battery often collapses, resulting in a permanent decrease in battery capacity. Assuming that charging continues, since the negative storage chamber is now full of lithium atoms, subsequent lithium metal will accumulate on the negative data surface. These lithium atoms grow dendrites from the surface of the cathode toward the lithium ions. These lithium metal crystals will pass through the barrier paper and short-circuit the anode and cathode. Sometimes the battery explodes before the short circuit occurs, because the electrolyte and other information will separate the gas during the overcharging process, causing the battery case or pressure valve to expand and split, causing oxygen to react with the accumulated lithium atoms on the negative electrode, and then rupture. Therefore, when charging a lithium battery, a voltage upper limit must be set to take into account the battery's life, capacity and safety. The optimal upper limit of the charging voltage is 4.2v. Lithium battery discharge must also have a lower voltage limit. When the battery voltage is lower than 2.4v, some data will be initially damaged. And because the battery will self-discharge, the longer the voltage, the lower it is. Therefore, it is best not to discharge at 2.4V until it lasts. During the discharge from 3.0v to 2.4v, the lithium battery can only release about 3% of its capacity. Therefore, 3.0v is the ideal discharge cut-off voltage. When charging and discharging, in addition to voltage constraints, current constraints are also necessary. When the current is too large, lithium ions have no time to enter the storage unit and collect on the data surface. When these lithium ions gain electrons, they will form lithium atom crystals on the data surface, which is the same as overcharging, posing a risk. If the battery casing cracks, it will break. Therefore, the maintenance of lithium batteries must include at least three parts: the upper limit of the charging voltage, the lower limit of the discharge voltage, and the upper limit of the current. In addition to lithium battery cells, a general lithium battery pack also has a maintenance board. This maintenance board is an important supply for these three maintenance. However, the three maintenance methods of the maintenance board are obviously not enough, and the explosion of lithium batteries in the world still exists. In order to ensure the safety of the battery system, it is necessary to conduct a more detailed analysis of the cause of the battery explosion. Reasons for blasting: 1. Large internal polarization; 2. The pole piece absorbs water and reacts with the electrolyte to form a gas drum; 3. The quality and function of the electrolyte itself; 4. The injection time and fluence do not meet the technical requirements; 5. Laser welding In the installation and preparation process, the sealing performance is poor; 6. Dust and pole piece dust are important to cause micro-short circuits; 7. The anode and cathode plates are thicker than the process scale, so it is difficult to enter the shell; 8. The liquid injection sealing problem, steel ball Poor sealing function leads to air drum; 9. The shell wall thickness is too large, the shell material cannot enter, and the shell deformation affects the thickness; 10. High ambient temperature is also an important reason for blasting.
