How to maintain the Ni-MH battery?

by:Vglory      2021-05-12
The positive electrode active material of nickel-hydrogen battery is Ni(OH)2 (called NiO electrode), the negative electrode active material is metal hydride, also called hydrogen storage alloy (electrode is called hydrogen storage electrode), and the electrolyte is 6mol/L potassium hydroxide solution. The process methods for the active material to form the electrode pads are mainly sintered, drawn, foamed nickel, fiber nickel, and infiltrated. Electrodes prepared by different processes have large differences in capacity and large current discharge performance. Process the battery in different processes according to the conditions of use. Most of the civilian batteries such as telecommunications use drawn-out negative electrodes and foamed nickel positive electrodes to form batteries. The chemical reaction of charge and discharge is as follows [1]: Positive electrode: Ni(OH)2+OH-u003dNiOOH+H2O+e- Negative electrode: M+H2O+e-u003dMHab+OH- Total reaction: Ni(OH)2+Mu003d NiOOH+MH Note: M: hydrogen alloy; Hab: adsorbed hydrogen; the process from left to right of the reaction formula is a charging process; the process from right to left of the reaction formula is a discharge process. Pay attention to maintenance when using Ni-MH batteries. (1) Avoid overcharging during use. During the cycle life, avoid overcharging during use. This is because overcharging can easily cause the positive and negative electrodes to expand, causing the active material to fall off, the diaphragm is damaged, the conductive network is damaged, and the ohmic polarization of the battery becomes larger. (2) Prevent electrolyte deterioration. During the cycle life of the Ni-MH battery, the hydrogen evolution of the battery should be suppressed. (3) Storage of Ni-MH batteries. The storage of Ni-MH batteries should be fully charged. If the battery is stored for a long time without storing electric energy in the battery, the function of the hydrogen storage alloy at the negative electrode of the battery will be weakened and the battery life will be shortened. (4) Charge after the battery is exhausted. Nickel-hydrogen batteries and nickel-cadmium batteries have the same memory effect, that is, if the battery is repeatedly charged and used while the battery is still in the state of remaining electric energy during discharge, the battery will soon become unusable.
