How to extend the life of lithium-ion battery

1. Prevent exposure to high and low temperatures, especially during charging. If your phone is hot on the charger, remove it. Likewise, prevent charging in extremely cold conditions. Extreme temperatures may accelerate the degradation of almost all battery components. As a guide, if the temperature exceeds the range of 10-35C, please do not charge. 2. The battery hates being too full or too little. Ideally, you should never let them charge more than 80% or discharge them to less than 20%, because going out of range on either side will stress and degrade the lithium-ion battery. If you want a fully charged battery, please continue to charge it fully. Once it reaches 100% of the charge, immediately remove it from the charger. 3. If possible, please prevent rapid charging and discharging. Fast chargers seem convenient, but high current will heat up and degrade the battery faster than slow current charging. The same is true for high discharge rates. Power-hungry applications will be detrimental to your battery and shorten its lifespan. Finally, prevent the use or storage of lithium-ion batteries in a humid environment, and prevent mechanical damage, such as punctures. Lithium-ion batteries work through the migration of ions between the positive and negative electrodes. In theory, under this mechanism, lithium-ion batteries can continue to work. However, with the extension of time, the battery performance decreases due to the increase in temperature and battery aging associated with the charge-discharge cycle. Manufacturers take a more conservative estimate, believing that most commercial lithium-ion batteries have a cycle life of between 300 and 500 cycles. However, it is of no practical significance to evaluate the life of a battery by the number of cycles, because there may be deep discharge during the discharge process, and there is no clear standard to characterize the concept of the number of cycles. In addition to using cycle counting to characterize, some equipment manufacturers recommend using a date stamp to indicate the time to replace the battery, but this method ignores the environmental conditions during use and is also unreliable. A battery may be scrapped within its service life due to overloaded use or unsuitable temperature conditions, but the service life of most battery packs far exceeds the regulated time. The performance of the battery is characterized by the battery capacity, which is also an important battery safety indicator. The internal resistance and self-discharge of the battery will affect the battery capacity, but this effect is negligible in terms of determining the final life of the new lithium-ion battery.
