Lithium-ion batteries are widely used in portable electronic devices such as mobile phones, camcorders, notebook computers, cordless phones, electric objects, remote control or electric toys, cameras, etc. due to their excellent characteristics. Because of its superior cycle performance, fast charging and discharging, charging efficiency as high as 100%, high output power, long service life, and no toxic and harmful substances, it is called a green battery. Today, I will talk about lithium-ion battery manufacturers teaching lithium-ion battery charging principles and charging processes. Lithium-ion battery charging principle stage 1: trickle charge Trickle charge is used to pre-charge the fully discharged battery unit. When the lithium-ion battery voltage is lower than 3V, the trickle charge is recovered, and the trickle charge current is one-tenth of the constant current charge current, which is 0.1c. Phase 2: Constant current charging When the voltage of the lithium-ion battery rises above the trickle charge threshold, the charging current is increased to perform constant current charging. The current for constant current charging is between 0.2C and 1.0C. The voltage of the lithium-ion battery gradually increases with the constant current charging process. Generally, the voltage set for a single-cell battery is 3.0-4.2V. Phase 3: Constant voltage charging When the voltage of the lithium-ion battery rises to 4.2V, constant current charging is over and the constant voltage charging phase begins. According to the saturation level of the battery core, the inherited charging current following the charging process is gradually eliminated from the maximum value. When it is reduced to 0.01C, the charging is considered to be terminated. Stage 4: Charge termination There are two typical charging termination methods: 1. Recycle the minimum charging current judgment or recycle timer. The minimum current method supervises the charging current in the constant voltage charging stage, and terminates the charging when the charging current decreases to the range of 0.02C to 0.07C. 2. The second method starts with the constant voltage charging stage and ends the charging process after two hours of continuous charging. Lithium-ion battery charging process Lithium-ion battery charging process can generally be divided into pre-charge, fast charge, top-up charge, and flow charge. 1. When the battery pre-charge is permanent or when a new battery is charged, the quick charge is recovered from the beginning, which will affect the battery life. Therefore, this kind of battery should be charged with a small current first to satisfy the necessary charging conditions. This stage is called pre-charging. 2. Fast charging of the battery. Fast charging is to charge with a large current to quickly restore the battery power. The fast charging rate is generally above 1C, and the fast charging time is determined by the battery capacity and the charging rate. Fast charging is divided into two types: constant current charging and pulse charging. Constant current charging is to charge the current with a constant current. Pulse charging is to first charge the battery with pulse current, and then discharge the battery, and so on. 3. When the battery is fully charged and recovered, some fast charging stop methods, after the fast charging is terminated, the battery does not have enough power. In order to guarantee 100% charge, you should also intervene to make up the charge process. The supplementary charging rate is generally not higher than 0.3C. 4. Battery trickle charging. In the process of complementary charging, the temperature will continue to rise. When the temperature is higher than the specified limit, the charger will enter the trickle charging state. In order to ensure that the battery is not charged externally, it is possible to recover the essentials of timing control, voltage control and temperature control. Current fast chargers usually recover comprehensive control methods including timing control, voltage control and temperature control.
