How to select and maintain model batteries?

by:Vglory      2021-04-17
Selection and maintenance of model batteries Model batteries include disposable manganese-zinc batteries, alkaline batteries, nickel-metal hydride batteries and sealed batteries, with different performances. The battery used in the model should be based on the power requirements of the model. In addition to the voltage, the battery's capacity, energy density, charge and discharge characteristics, temperature characteristics, life and storage performance must also be considered. The capacity of the storage battery One-time-use storage battery, such as manganese-zinc and alkaline storage battery, usually does not indicate its capacity. The energy density of batteries For many models, batteries must not only have high energy, but also require light weight and small size, that is, the weight density (Wh/kg) and volumetric energy density (Wh/I) must be large. The price of rechargeable batteries is higher than that of disposable batteries, but because they can be recharged and used repeatedly, the actual use cost is much lower than that of disposable batteries. The price of working current manganese-zinc battery is cheap, but due to its large internal cathode and small discharge current, it is only suitable for low-power and long-use occasions. Generally, the working current does not exceed 0.2C. For example, the working current of No. 5 battery is generally below 100mA . The internal cathode of alkaline batteries is smaller than that of manganese-zinc batteries, and the maximum continuous discharge current can reach 2C, which can be used as the power supply for the transceiver of small electric four-wheel drive vehicles and remote controllers. The maximum continuous discharge current of the lithium battery is 2C, and the maximum continuous discharge current of the nickel-hydrogen battery is 3C, which can be used as a power source for small motors. In comparison, nickel-cadmium batteries have the smallest internal cathode and the best rapid discharge performance. Generally, the maximum continuous discharge current is above 10C. At present, the model power is an important power source. Discharge stability The discharge curves of lithium batteries, nickel-metal hydride batteries, and nickel-cadmium batteries are better, followed by alkaline batteries, and manganese-zinc batteries are the worst. The temperature characteristics of the battery The capacity of the rechargeable battery will be reduced at low temperatures, and the storage time is too long. For example, the maximum capacity of the nickel-cadmium battery may be reduced to about 80% of the original after 5-6 years. Working current and capacity The capacity of the rechargeable battery will decrease in the case of high-current working. Therefore, the model should pay attention to this feature when selecting the working current range. Life of rechargeable battery Under normal circumstances, the service life of a rechargeable battery can be used more than 500 times when the capacity is not less than 70%. However, frequent charging with excessive current will shorten its life to less than 100 times, and similarly, excessive discharge current will shorten its life.
