How to choose the right battery The key indicator of the battery is of course its life. Choosing the chemical composition of the battery In planning, the constraints between the battery and the system are often ignored. It is vital to ensure that the battery capacity matches the system requirements. Common battery types are alkaline batteries, nickel-metal hydride batteries and lithium batteries. They are not interchangeable, and most products have an optimal method. Alkaline batteries Alkaline batteries are not rechargeable (emphasized in a recent night battery advertisement), but their self-discharge rate and cost are extremely low (no charger or power socket). Alkaline batteries will be a good choice for low-power applications, but they must be used wisely, and both static and sleep currents must be low. A common mistake in planning is to focus only on working power and ignore current consumption in shutdown or sleep states. Even the current consumption of tens of thousands of units of batteries will result in frequent battery replacement. Many programs now use soft switches instead of mechanical switches (mechanical switches can completely disconnect the battery), but this planning error is more common than it was a few years ago. Rechargeable batteries When the load of alkaline batteries is too high, use rechargeable batteries, which has become the standard for portable products (such as notebook computers, PDAs, and mobile phones). Rechargeable batteries must interfere with the user as little as possible in order to promote the product, at least without reducing the product's functionality. There are two options for rechargeable batteries: Ni-MH batteries or lithium batteries. This issue is even more important for products with low cost, short and complex charging schedules, because NiMH batteries are suitable for full charge and full discharge processes. When the battery runs out of energy and is charged by an external charger, the alkaline battery will be removed from the device. This type of application is very common in digital cameras, but requires frequent user intervention. Unlike many portable devices, PDAs and mobile phones need to be charged regularly, but they only consume power occasionally. These products are most suitable for use in lithium batteries. In addition to weight density, there are two important advantages: low self-discharge rate and not limited by short-time charge and discharge.
