What are the recycling technologies for used lithium batteries?

1 Waste lithium battery valuable metal recovery technology 1.1 Dry technology The dry method is the reduction roasting of the lithium battery to separate cobalt and aluminum, and the leaching and separation of cobalt and acetylene black. Japan’s Sony Corporation and Sumitomo Metal Mining Co., Ltd. are cooperating to study the technology of recovering cobalt from waste lithium ion secondary batteries. The process is to burn the battery first, then screen to remove iron and copper, and then heat the residual powder and dissolve it in acid. Extraction with organic solvents can bring out cobalt oxide [2]. ChurlKyoungLee et al. [3] first crushed the waste lithium battery, and then subjected to heat treatment to turn the combustible material into gas, leaving LiCoO2. In a constant temperature water bath, add nitric acid and hydrogen peroxide to dissolve LiCoO2, so that the leaching rates of Co and Li both reach 85%. The dry process is relatively simple, but the energy consumption is high, and the burning of the electrolyte solution and other components in the electrode can easily cause air pollution. 1.2 Wet method technology The wet method is to leached out the valuable components in the waste battery with an inorganic acid solution, and then recycle it by a certain method. The cathode material of lithium ion secondary battery was leached with hydrochloric acid at 80℃, and the leaching rate of Co and Li were both greater than 99%. Then, the Co was extracted with PC-288A (2-ethylhexyl phosphoric acid-mono-2-ethylhexyl ether). After stripping, cobalt is recovered in the form of cobalt sulfate. Then sodium carbonate solution is added to produce lithium carbonate precipitation, and the recovery rate is close to 80%. KudoMistuhiko et al. [5] leached the anode waste of lithium batteries with acid, added amphoteric metal to the leaching solution to change Co2+ into Co, and then removed the amphoteric metal to obtain metallic Co.
