Will the battery capacity decrease after using it for a long time?

From life practice, we can find that whether it is a start-up battery or an energy storage battery, as long as it is used for a long time, no matter how long it is charged, the battery power of the UPS power supply seems to run out quickly. This is what we call capacity reduction. The positive plate of the lead-acid battery is an important factor affecting the working life of the UPS battery. The capacity of the lead-acid battery charge-discharge cycle, especially the capacity drop under the deep cycle is closely related to the quality deviation of the positive plate. The corrosion rate of the grid depends on the composition of the grid alloy, but the higher the storage temperature, the faster the corrosion rate, and the deeper the depth of discharge, the more severe the corrosion. With such aging, the battery can no longer be charged. During normal operation of the UPS power battery, the PbSO4 particles on the negative plate are small, and the discharge can easily be restored to velvet lead, but sometimes lead sulfate is generated inside the battery, which is difficult to reduce, which is called sulfation. There are many reasons for the salting of the negative electrode, such as the inability to charge in time after discharge, long-term storage of the battery, causing serious self-discharge, excessive electrolyte concentration, long-term insufficient charging, and long-term discharge at high temperatures. This lead sulfate is difficult to reduce by conventional methods In this way, the reduction of active materials will inevitably affect the capacity of lead-acid batteries. The capacity of a UPS power battery generally refers to the capacity that can be discharged at a rate of 10 hours at 25°C. For a single discharge, the temperature rise will increase the discharge capacity, and the temperature drop will reduce the discharge capacity. But for long-term use, the increase in temperature will shorten the life of the battery, while the low temperature can extend the life of the battery, which is mainly due to the working principle of the battery. Frequent power outages, long power outages, and irregular power outages in the base station cause frequent battery charging and discharging. According to the current battery manufacturer’s anatomy of the base station’s disused batteries, the cause of the end of battery life is the sulfation of the battery’s negative plate. A typical phenomenon of battery early capacity failure (PCL). Disclaimer: Some pictures and content of articles published on this site are from the Internet.
