What is the problem with the ternary material lithium battery
by:Vglory 2021-03-18
The ternary material lithium battery has problems with the matching of the electrolyte. The reverse response charge transfer at the interface between the electrolyte and the positive electrode material will affect the performance of the lithium battery. The corrosion of the active material and the analysis of the electrolyte will seriously affect the charge in the electrode/ Transmission of electrolyte interface. The surface reaction is uneven. Research from the Korea Institute of Science and Technology found that the structure of NCA changes during the charging process, and the Li on the surface of the particles is more likely to escape, causing the surface crystal and particle structure to become uneven. The material undergoes rapid capacity decay and impedance rise. For the research and development direction of ternary materials, Professor Ai Xinping from Wuhan University made a prediction for the next generation of power lithium-ion batteries. He mentioned that the battery system with NCM and NCA as the positive electrode and graphite-like carbon as the negative electrode can reach 150~170Wh/kg. The short-term goal is not difficult, but safety is an important obstacle restricting the installation and use of ternary lithium batteries. In the future development, four directions are worth exploring: higher capacity ternary lithium battery materials; higher power ternary materials; improvement of synthesis methods; research on electrolyte additives matching ternary materials. At present, based on safety, commercial vehicles still use more lithium iron phosphate, while passenger cars are gradually switching to the ternary lithium-lithium battery route. At present, energy density is the biggest bottleneck, and the thermal stability shortcomings of the ternary lithium route can be compensated by supporting the use of a more efficient thermal management system. Therefore, the ternary lithium battery route is expected to gradually become the mainstream route of later technology.
