What is the difference between lithium-ion batteries and storage batteries?

Most people should know the difference between the power density and energy density of batteries. The discharge capacity of the battery is not good, the high temperature performance is poor, and the battery is easily damaged, and the service life is not long. For example: the voltage of a battery pack with 240 batteries connected in series is 480V, and its power drops by 10% during discharge, down to 432V (or lower). While supplying constant power to the load, this causes the current of the battery pack to consume 10% or more. As far as possible these are simplified examples, but in order to ensure sufficient discharge capacity at the high power discharge rate used in the data center, a larger battery capacity is required. But lithium-ion batteries are just the opposite. In general, it has the following benefits: small size, light weight, high energy density, long life, safe use, high current fast charging, bumpy temperature resistance, large depth of discharge, green environmental protection and no image effect. But compared with lead-acid batteries, the upfront cost of its furnishings is higher. Lithium-ion batteries are relatively new for data center applications, and people have been waiting for the recovery of lithium-ion battery UPS to have a longer working time under actual data center operating conditions. Although super capacitor technology has been introduced for a long time, it has not paid much attention to data center applications, because like flywheel UPS communication, it only provides a relatively short power supply time. It can work in a higher temperature range (-40F to +150F) than lead-acid batteries and lithium-ion batteries. It is estimated that the service life is 15 years longer, and it almost does not require manual maintenance. In terms of grid-level energy storage of lithium-ion battery UPS grid-level energy storage, its furnishings will improve the peak capacity and overall reliability of the grid. In addition, this method can also improve the ability to integrate solar and wind energy, which can be continuous but intermittent. In the past year, there have been multiple announcements of megawatt-level grid energy storage using lithium-ion battery UPS to support peak loads, thereby minimizing the need for natural gas power plants.
