What happens if the lithium ion battery is left unused for a long time?

With the increasing global pollution of furniture, energy conservation and environmental protection have become a topic advocated by all walks of life. Many energy-saving and environmentally-friendly products on the market have been developed. In the battery market, lithium-ion batteries are a super new star. With the characteristics of safety, light weight, long service life, complete charge and discharge, low maintenance costs, and no memory effect, they quickly occupy the market and are gradually replacing traditional lead. Acid batteries, of course, the most important feature of lithium-ion batteries is energy saving and environmental protection. Lithium-ion batteries are divided into ternary lithium-ion batteries, iron phosphate lithium-ion batteries, iron manganate lithium-ion batteries, lithium-ion batteries, and many other types. China’s lithium-ion battery industry is developing rapidly and is used in more and more areas. It can be said that our scientific and technological life is inseparable from lithium-ion batteries. At present, 18650 lithium-ion batteries are the most used on the market. Compared with traditional lead-acid batteries, lithium-ion batteries have the characteristics of high open circuit voltage, low self-discharge, high discharge rate, wide operating temperature range, fast charging speed, no memory effect, and no pollution. Yesterday, a user asked the author, will lithium-ion batteries break if they are not used for a long time? meeting! ! ! New products that have never been used: Under normal circumstances, the national standard charge of the lithium-ion battery pack is 30%. For example: 18650 battery pack with 14.8V/2200MAH capacity, the factory power is about 600-700MAH. But the cells of lithium-ion battery packs will discharge themselves, which is what we usually call leakage. There are many electronic components on the protection board of the battery pack. ICs, MOSs, capacitors, resistors, etc. will continue to consume electricity by themselves, plus the self-discharge of the cells themselves (all rechargeable batteries have, Lithium-ion batteries, polymer batteries, lithium iron phosphate batteries, and nickel-metal hydride batteries are all the same) Although these self-discharges are very small, tens of microamperes/hour, they can be ignored during normal use. But if you don’t use it for a long time, it’s not too small if you calculate it carefully. A few tens of microamperes per hour can reach 1-2 milliamps per hour. In this case, taking the 14.8V/2200MAH as an example, 30% of the power of about 600-700MAH from the factory will be completely drained after more than a year. If the battery is packaged on the product, then add some electronics on the product. Components may leak faster and the time will be shorter. When the power of the lithium-ion battery pack is completely exposed, the cell membrane paper is completely dry, and the electrolyte is completely zero, and it cannot be activated at all and cannot be recharged. Some customers may say, wouldn’t it be much better if the battery overflows when you leave the factory? It’s a lot better for this problem, but if the factory battery is full, it’s not safe, so the industry standard is everyone’s 30% charged. Used: When the battery pack is used and discharged until it is protected, it is the state where the power is basically discharged (in fact, there is only a little residual power state). In normal use, when the lithium-ion battery pack is discharged to the protection voltage, the protection board is automatically closed. At this time, the lithium-ion battery pack is nearly used up, but some remaining power is about 5%, which is used up under normal conditions. I can charge. Sometimes I forget that I can charge it after a few days. Basically, I charge it again after half a month and a month, and the problem is not big. But if it is used up for three or four months without charging it, it will almost be scrapped. In response to these problems, you only need to do the following and there is no problem. First: If the new battery has never been used, please do not leave it out for too long. Especially new batteries that have not been used before, don't throw them away for four or five months. If it really cannot be discharged in time, please remember to recharge the battery! Second: If the product has already been shipped, it needs to be indicated to the customer in the product manual. If the new product is not charged for a long time, the battery will fail. If the battery is used under normal conditions, it should be charged in a hurry when the battery is used up. Otherwise the battery will fail. Disclaimer: Some pictures and content of the articles published on this site are from the Internet. If there is any infringement, please contact to delete.
