What factors will affect the life of the battery?

by:Vglory      2021-05-05
At present, common car batteries are mainly divided into two categories: ordinary batteries and VRLA valve-regulated batteries. Ordinary batteries are divided into maintainable (dry-charged) and maintenance-free (sealed). The difference between the two lies in the sealing properties of the battery. There are 6 holes on the top of the maintainable battery, which are responsible for exhausting and filling electrolyte and distilled water, while the maintenance-free battery has no small holes, and there is no need to add any substances during the service cycle. The biggest problem that affects the battery life is that when charging, the current will cause the water molecules in the electrolyte to decompose, and oxygen will be deposited on the positive electrode and hydrogen will be deposited on the negative electrode. Therefore, after a period of use, the water in the battery will be lost, which will affect the concentration of the electrolyte. This is why it is necessary to check the electrolyte level and fill in distilled water in time. This problem exists regardless of whether it is a maintainable or a maintenance-free battery. Thus, VRLA valve-regulated batteries appeared. There are two common types of VRLA valve-regulated batteries, one is called AGM battery and the other is called EFB battery. The difference between the two is that AGM is a lean-liquid battery, that is, there is little electrolyte; while EFB is an enhanced rich-liquid type, that is, the electrolyte is excessive. The common point of AGM and EFB is that the negative electrode adopts excessive active material to prevent the precipitation of hydrogen; at the same time, the oxygen present in the positive electrode enters the negative electrode through a certain route and reacts with the lead in the negative electrode. In this way, the gas that appears during the charging process stays inside the battery and maintains the concentration of the electrolyte. VRLA valve-regulated battery prolongs the service life (number of cycles), and at the same time achieves maintenance-free and high performance. Among these two kinds of batteries, the performance of AGM batteries is better, and the number of charge and discharge cycles is 3 to 4 times that of ordinary batteries. Both AGM and EFB batteries are used as automatic start-stop batteries, but AGM supports energy recovery systems, while EFB batteries do not. At present, many Japanese cars equipped with automatic start-stop function use EFB batteries; and many German cars equipped with automatic start-stop and energy recovery use AGM batteries. In terms of price, AGM batteries are more expensive than EFB. The former is generally more than 2,000 yuan, and the latter is generally more than 1,000 yuan. Regarding ordinary storage batteries, without maintenance, whether they are maintainable or maintenance-free, the theoretical life is about 3 years. It depends on the working conditions and driving habits of the car. The difference is that when the performance of a maintainable battery decreases, it can be supplemented with electrolyte and distilled water to continue its life. If properly maintained, it can continue to serve for more than one year. It can be seen that maintainable batteries have more advantages in terms of life, and maintenance-free batteries may sound high-end, but in fact they have to be replaced after two or three years.
