What are the differences between polymer batteries and liquid lithium batteries?

by:Vglory      2021-04-06
Due to the different processing techniques of important lithium battery manufacturers, polymer lithium batteries on the market are divided into two different structures: winding structure (represented by Sony and Toshiba) and laminated structure (represented by TCL and ATL). However, most of the specifications required to adapt to mobile phones are below 4 mm. Compared with the liquid, the polymer outer packaging uses a thinner aluminum film, which is thinner than the steel shell and the aluminum shell, and the processing method is different from that of the liquid lithium battery. The thinner the polymer, the better the processing. Theoretically, a battery with a thickness of less than 0.5mm can be processed. Liquid lithium is just the opposite. The thicker the better, the more difficult it is to process a battery with a thickness of less than 4mm. Even if it is processed, the capacity is significantly smaller than that of polymer lithium, and there is no advantage in cost. Therefore, the thinner the battery, the lower the polymer processing cost, and the higher the liquid processing cost. However, in the thicker specifications, the liquid lithium battery supply chain is mature, the technology is mature, the processing efficiency is high, the output is high, and the manufacturing cost is strong. Judging from the current market, the liquid lithium batteries of the 5mm and 6mm thickness series are much higher than the 3mm and 4mm thickness series batteries, but the price is much lower. Theoretically, the material cost of 5mm and 6mm thickness specifications is related to liquid. However, the current process cost of 5mm and 6mm series batteries is much higher than that of liquid. Therefore, it is necessary to form a liquid with this specification. There is still a lot of distance in the competition. There are three important structures of ordinary lithium batteries: positive electrode, negative electrode and electrolyte. The so-called polymer lithium battery refers to at least one or more of the three important structures using polymer materials as the main battery system. In the current polymer lithium battery system, polymer materials are mainly used for cathodes and electrolytes. The positive electrode material includes conductive polymers or inorganic compounds used in lithium storage batteries. The electrolyte may use a solid or gel polymer electrolyte or an organic electrolyte. The anode material usually uses lithium metal or lithium-carbon interlayer compound. Generally speaking, lithium-ion technology uses liquid or gel electrolytes, so a strong secondary packaging is required to contain flammable active ingredients, which adds weight and cost, and also limits size flexibility. There is no excess electrolyte in the polymer lithium ion process, so it is more stable, and it is not easy to cause danger due to damage of the battery such as overcharging, needle sticks, collisions, and overuse. The shape of the new generation polymer lithium battery can be thinner (the thinnest 0.8 mm), any area and any shape, which greatly increases the flexibility of battery design, so that it can be made according to product requirements. With any shape and capacity of batteries, it provides application equipment developers with a high degree of design flexibility and adaptable power solutions to maximize their product performance. At the same time, the unit energy of polymer lithium batteries is 50 inches higher than the current ordinary lithium batteries. Its capacity, charging and discharging characteristics, safety, operating temperature range, cycle life (more than 500 times) and environmental protection performance have been greatly improved compared to lithium batteries.
