What are the advantages of blade batteries compared to ordinary power lithium batteries?

Recently, BYD Chairman Wang Chuanfu announced that BYD’s blade battery will begin mass production at the Chongqing plant in March of this year, and will be installed for the first time in BYD Han EV that went on the market in June. As soon as the news came out, the capital market reacted immediately, and BYD stock once rose by the limit. The so-called blade battery is actually BYD's new generation of lithium iron phosphate batteries, also known as super lithium iron phosphate batteries. The reason why it is named the blade battery is because the arrangement of the battery cells is inserted into the battery pack like the blade, which is different from the traditional power lithium battery cells. The traditional power lithium battery cell adopts a cylindrical design, which is packaged into a battery pack and then formed into a battery pack. However, the blade battery uses a large battery cell with a length of more than 0.6 meters, which can be directly integrated into a battery pack without modules (CTP technology). Compared with the traditional power lithium battery, the blade battery can improve the space utilization rate of the battery pack and increase the energy density. Compared with ternary lithium-ion batteries, lithium iron phosphate batteries have inherent disadvantages in terms of energy density, which is also a major reason why ternary lithium-ion batteries are becoming more and more popular. However, compared with ternary lithium-ion batteries, lithium iron phosphate batteries have the advantages of high safety and long service life. Now blade batteries have effectively weakened the shortcomings of low energy density of lithium iron phosphate batteries, and the future application prospects will be broader. For BYD, the lithium iron phosphate battery is its strong point, and the blade battery makes it even more powerful.
