Introduction to the characteristics of lithium-ion batteries

by:Vglory      2021-03-25
Lithium-ion batteries are different from other types of batteries and have their own unique characteristics. (1) The weight of a high-energy density lithium-ion battery is half that of a nickel-cadmium or nickel-hydrogen battery of the same capacity, and its volume is 20-30% of nickel-cadmium and 35-50% of nickel-hydrogen battery. (2) High voltage The working voltage of a single lithium-ion battery is 3.7V (average value), which is equivalent to three nickel-cadmium or nickel-hydrogen batteries connected in series. (3) The pollution-free lithium ion battery does not contain harmful metal substances such as cadmium, lead, and mercury. (4) Metal-free lithium-ion batteries do not contain metal lithium, so they are not subject to restrictions on the prohibition of carrying lithium-ion batteries on passenger aircraft in aircraft transportation. (5) High cycle life Under normal conditions, the charge-discharge cycle of a lithium-ion battery can exceed 500 times, and that of lithium iron phosphate (hereinafter referred to as ferrophosphorus) can reach 2000 times. (6) No memory effect The memory effect refers to the phenomenon that the capacity of the nickel-cadmium battery decreases during the charge-discharge cycle. Li-ion batteries do not have this effect. (7) Fast charging uses a constant current and constant voltage charger with a rated voltage of 4.2V, which can fully charge the lithium-ion battery within 1.5-2.5 hours; while the newly developed lithium iron phosphate battery can already be charged within 35 minutes full charge.
