Comparative analysis of the advantages and disadvantages of solid-state lithium batteries and hydrogen fuel power batteries

New energy vehicle power technology routes have their own advantages and disadvantages, and their application fields have their own focus. With the rise of solid lithium batteries and hydrogen fuel power batteries, they have become important technical routes for the development of the new energy vehicle industry. (1) The lithium battery industry has a solid foundation, but solid-state battery technology needs to be improved. Solid-state lithium battery technology is an important direction for achieving breakthroughs in the energy density of automotive power lithium-ion batteries. Solid-state batteries have the advantages of high ionic conductivity, high mechanical strength, and high energy density. Using the original technology accumulation and industrial resources in the field of lithium batteries in my country, large-scale processing can be realized at a lower cost. Solid-state batteries have great potential and energy density in terms of safety, but a lot of research work needs to be done to improve the electrode/electrolyte interface, solid electrolyte treatment, and chemical stability to make up for shortcomings, such as reduced driving range, difficulty in charging, and high energy Efficient temperature control system at low temperatures. (2) Hydrogen fuel power cell has obvious performance advantages, but lacks core technology and supporting construction of hydrogen fuel power cell. Another development branch is also highly regarded in the industry. Hydrogen fuel power battery has the characteristics of light weight, long life, high energy density, short charging time, long cruising range, and environmental protection. However, its key components such as proton exchange membranes, catalysts, bipolar plates and other core technologies have been monopolized by foreign countries for a long time, severely restricting industrial development. my country has not yet formed a complete hydrogen energy ecological chain for hydrogen production, hydrogen storage, and hydrogenation. The hydrogen energy infrastructure is insufficient and it is difficult to promote it on a large scale in a short period of time. The potential application advantages of the two power technology routes are that different domestic new energy vehicles have complex development environments and different demands. Solid lithium batteries and hydrogen fuel power battery technologies have their own advantages and disadvantages, and each has potential for practical applications. In terms of energy distribution, climate, geography, and regional functional differences, the two technical routes have their own applications. First, the domestic coal resources are unevenly distributed. Nearly 50% of the coal resources are distributed in North China, and about 30% of the reserves are distributed in the Northwest. However, there are few coal resources in East China and Southwest China. The reserve capacity of power plants in North China and Northwest China can be used to supply power to solid-state lithium battery vehicles through charging piles, thereby achieving the dual effects of fuel substitution and improved power utilization. According to statistics, my country's average wind curtailment rate in 2018 was 7%, mainly concentrated in Xinjiang, Gansu, Tibet and other regions. With the development of hydrogen production technology, these unused resources can be converted into hydrogen and stored in the form of compressed gas storage and liquefied hydrogen storage. Therefore, abundant local renewable energy provides unique conditions for the development of hydrogen fuel-powered battery vehicles. Secondly, the existing solid-state battery technology cannot meet the application needs of the northeast and other high-cold regions, and hydrogen fuel power batteries can be used as an alternative technology in these regions. Third, from the perspective of geographical conditions, the distribution of cities in the eastern region is relatively concentrated and rapid development. The number of vehicles continues to increase, and short-distance transportation lines are dense, which is suitable for the development of solid-state lithium battery vehicles. In addition, it is relatively easy to centrally arrange hydrogen refueling stations in the port. It can be transformed into a commercial vehicle parked in the port, and the hydrogen industry can be deployed in the port. It is convenient to set up oil-hydrogen mixing stations in the service area along the expressway, build a hydrogen-energy intercity highway, and realize the integrated layout of hydrogen refueling stations, refueling stations, and charging stations.
