Analysis of lithium batteries and performance advantages

Traditional lithium battery Lithium is a type of battery that uses lithium metal or lithium alloy as the negative electrode material and uses a non-aqueous electrolyte solution. However, due to the active chemical nature of lithium metal, it has strict environmental requirements during production, storage and use. Therefore, its application is greatly restricted. Later, Japan's Sony Corporation invented a lithium battery with carbon material as the negative electrode and lithium-containing compound as the positive electrode. During the charging and discharging process, there is no metal lithium but only lithium ions, so it is called a lithium battery, or lithium battery for short. The positive electrode material of lithium battery is usually composed of active compound of lithium, and the negative electrode is carbon with special molecular structure. When charging, the potential applied on both sides of the electrode forces the compound of the positive electrode to release lithium ions, which are embedded in the carbon in which the molecules of the negative electrode are arranged in a sheet structure. During discharge, lithium ions are precipitated from the layered structure and recombine with the compound of the positive electrode. Electrons flow through the external circuit, and current appears. The schematic diagram is as follows: The reaction principle of lithium battery The development of lithium battery is mainly due to the update of cathode materials. The cathode material has changed from the original metallic lithium to LiCoO2, and now it is LiMn2O4 that is most likely to replace LiCoO2. Lithium battery performance advantages: 1. High specific energy and great development potential. With high storage energy density, it has reached 460-600Wh/kg at present. 2. Long service life, the average service life can reach more than 6 years. 3. The self-discharge rate is very low. At present, it can generally achieve less than 1%/month, which is less than 1/20 of Ni-MH battery. 4. Green and environmental protection There are no toxic and harmful heavy metal elements and substances such as lead, mercury, cadmium, etc. 5. Wide operating temperature range, can be used in the environment of -20℃-60℃. 6. The rated voltage is high (the single working voltage is 3.7V), which is approximately equal to the series voltage of 3 nickel-cadmium rechargeable batteries. 7. No memory effect. The memory effect is that the capacity of the battery is reduced when the battery is not used up. The memory effect of traditional batteries is very serious.
