Ternary Lithium Battery Charging Principle Ternary lithium batteries generally require the charging process to be controlled in four stages: trickle charging (low-voltage precharge), constant current charging, constant voltage charging, and charging stop. Stage 1: Trickle charge Trickle charge is used to pre-charge (recovery charge) the completely discharged battery cell first. Use trickle charging when the voltage of the ternary lithium battery is lower than about 3V, the trickle charging current is one-tenth of the constant current charging current, which is 0.1c (taking a constant charging current of 1A for example, the trickle charging current is 100mA) . Phase 2: Constant current charging When the voltage of the ternary lithium battery rises above the trickle charge threshold, the charging current is increased for constant current charging. The current for constant current charging is between 0.2C and 1.0C. The battery voltage gradually increases with the constant current charging process. Generally, the voltage set for a single battery is 3.0-4.2V. Phase 3: Constant voltage charging When the voltage of the ternary lithium battery rises to 4.2V, the constant current charging is completed and the constant voltage charging phase begins. According to the saturation of the battery cell, the continuous charging current following the charging process gradually decreases from the maximum value. When it decreases to 0.01C, the charging is considered to stop. Stage 4: Charging stop There are two typical charging stop methods: choose the minimum charging current to judge or choose the timer. The minimum current method supervises the charging current in the constant voltage charging stage, and stops charging when the charging current is less than 0.02C. The second method starts from the constant voltage charging stage and stops the charging process after two hours of charging. Correct charging method for ternary lithium battery 1. Use the matching battery charger to charge the battery for one hour after the battery overflows. 2. After discharging to about 20℅ left, recharge, over-discharging will damage the ternary lithium battery. 3. When charging, try to overflow once. 4. Products powered by lithium batteries do not need to be constrained by the process. Everything is convenient and can be charged at any time without worrying about affecting the lifespan. Using the correct charging method, the lithium battery can be fully charged. If the charging method is not correct, the lithium battery will be undercharged at the slightest level, and the capacity of the lithium battery will decrease, shorten the lifespan, and cause overcharge.
