So scientists turned to other low-cost materials. Recently, the Shenzhen Advanced Institute of Chinese Academy of Sciences has developed a new type of magnesium-based dual-ion battery. Unlike traditional lithium-ion batteries, graphite is usually used as its negative electrode material in traditional lithium-ion batteries, but magnesium-based dual-ion batteries use graphite materials on the positive electrode. However, the research of magnesium ion batteries is still in its infancy, and there is still a long way to go before commercial use, and there are still technical problems that need to be overcome. In single-ion batteries such as lithium-ion batteries, the lithium ions in the electrolyte will move between the positive and negative electrodes, shaking back and forth like a rocking chair. In dual-ion batteries, the cations and anions in the electrolyte simultaneously move to the negative electrode material and the positive electrode material, and an electrochemical oxidation-reduction reaction occurs, thereby realizing charge and discharge. At the same time, it is found that the magnesium-based dual-ion battery has excellent rate performance and cycle performance. The high rate charge and discharge capacity retention rate at 20C is 85%, and the capacity retention rate after 500 cycles at 5C rate is 95.7%. The new type of magnesium-ion battery provides new ideas for the future of lithium batteries, and has strong application prospects in the field of large-scale energy storage in the future.
